Division info:

Located in Runcorn, United Kingdom, our newly extended 120,000 sq. ft. facility is a fully integrated site offering comprehensive manufacturing, repair, and overhaul services to the major players in the landing gear industry. Designated as a Center of Excellence, the facility specializes in surface treatment and assembly of small to medium sized landing gear systems. As a key part of the Centre of Division, supports several global programs, including: Gripen – SAAB, Hawk - BAE Systems, KF21 - Hanwha Aerospace, AW101 - Leonardo Helicopters. With a strong focus on cutting-edge technology, advanced manufacturing processes, and lean techniques, we are committed to delivering high-value, precision-engineered components for complex landing gear systems.

Job Summary:

This role is based in Runcorn, in the Northwest of England at the Héroux Devtek UK engineering office. Reporting to the Chief Stress Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic, international, co-located team of engineers engaged in the design, manufacture and testing of exciting new aircraft landing gear systems.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience of stress analysis, preferably within the aerospace industry, is essential for this role with a proven ability to:
    • determine applied loads on components by interpretation of system drawings and specifications using classical methods or computer simulation tools.
    • perform hand stress calculations using standard methods and data sheets.
    • Knowledge in the use of:
      • FEA methods preferably using ABAQUS and ABAQUS/CAE.
      • fatigue analysis methods using classical Miner’s calculations and nCode or MSC/Fatigue simulation software.
    • Ability to produce reports on analyses and tests to a standard sufficient for issue to Civil and Military Airworthiness Authorities.
    • Competency in the use of Microsoft Software together with good presentation and report writing skills.

Whilst these will be the primary responsibilities of the role, knowledge of the following would be advantageous.

  • Airworthiness requirements relating to the landing gear loading conditions, (EASA/FAA 23/25/27/29, Def Stan 00-970, STANAG 4671, MIL-8862 etc.).
  • Modelling of landing gear systems using dynamic simulation tools (ADAMS/Vi-Aircraft, MATLAB, MS Excel/Visual Basic).
  • Understanding of the behavior of aircraft and landing gear mechanical systems in order to determine the most appropriate analyses.
  • Generation of Performance & Loads Reports to provide loading data for the structural analysis of landing gears.

This role offers the perfect opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking to develop/expand their career in this field of analytics. For the successful candidate, training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Membership of an Engineering Society (RAeS, IMechE or similar) will be an advantage although sponsorship to achieve this will be offered.
