Structural CAD Technician / Senior Structural Technician (Hybrid)

£40,000 - £60,000+ DOE + Hybrid + Annual Bonus + Equity Ownership + Chartership Support + Training + Market Leading Career Progression
Cardiff (Hybrid)

Are you a Structural CAD Technician looking to join a growing civil and structural consultancy where you can take ownership of your own projects, work directly with clients and have a clear progression path into more senior positions? Do you want to join an employee-owned business where succession planning and progression are genuinely important?

Our client is an established civil and structural consultancy based in Cardiff, delivering engineering projects across South Wales, the South West and the M4 corridor. The business works predominantly across the residential sector, alongside healthcare, commercial and educational projects, and has a strong pipeline of work across the region. With an experienced but relatively top-heavy team, the business is actively looking to bring in ambitious technicians who want to progress their careers. With several senior members of the team expected to retire over the next 10 years, there is a genuine opportunity for the right person to progress through the ranks towards Associate and Director level.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
