The Role
Position: Structural Engineer
Location: London, UK
Employment Type: Full time
Experience: 3–5 years
As a Structural Engineer at NDY, you will support the delivery of a range of building projects, applying your knowledge and technical competencies across structural design, analysis, coordination, and documentation. This role is critical to our business as you contribute to the growth of our structural engineering services and help deliver meaningful outcomes for our clients.
We are seeking an engineer who is confident working independently and is enthusiastic about contributing to multidisciplinary international projects across the UK, Europe, and Australia. You will have the opportunity to develop your expertise in low-carbon structural design, including timber, while supporting projects from concept through to construction.
Key Challenges:
- Understanding business, project, and client requirements effectively.
- Working with multiple stakeholders across complex, multidisciplinary environments.
- Coordinating structural design information with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Managing varied and conflicting demands to meet agreed standards, quality expectations, and deadlines.
- Applying relevant international standards and technical requirements across projects.
- Contributing to the development of a growing structural engineering team.
Key Accountabilities:
Technical Delivery
- Undertake structural design and analysis across a range of materials, including steel, reinforced concrete, timber, and masonry.
- Prepare accurate design reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Participate in the engineering delivery of projects of varying scales, ensuring effective coordination across disciplines.
- Carry out structural modelling using relevant analysis and design software.
- Apply appropriate UK, European, Australian, and other relevant standards and requirements.
- Contribute to low-carbon structural design solutions, with the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in timber, including CLT and glulam.
Project Management and Coordination
- Plan and manage your workload to meet project deadlines, budget requirements, and quality expectations.
- Provide input into fee proposals, job costing, project planning, fee allocations, timesheets, and forecasts in consultation with the Manager and Project Leader.
- Manage NDY’s involvement in projects efficiently to meet client requirements and achieve quality outcomes.
- Coordinate structural design activities with internal teams and external consultants.
- Attend project and site meetings as required, representing NDY with professionalism.

Client Service
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Liaise confidently with internal and external teams to resolve design and coordination matters.
- Communicate technical information clearly through written reports, presentations, drawings, and discussions.
- Deliver responsive and professional service that supports long-term client partnerships.
People and Development
- Provide guidance and on-the-job support to graduates and junior staff.
- Participate in engineering training and technical development initiatives within the structural discipline.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to the development of less senior engineers.
- Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities within project delivery processes.
- Contribute to the growth and development of NDY’s emerging structural engineering team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Three to five years’ experience in structural engineering design and project delivery.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in structural modelling and analysis software.
- Strong structural design capability, particularly in steel and reinforced concrete.
- Experience or interest in structural timber design, including CLT, glulam, or other timber systems, is desirable.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain and visually represent technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
- Ability to learn quickly and exercise well-developed problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use initiative and judgement to work independently and meet agreed objectives.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, engineering codes, and standards.
- Progression towards chartered status through IStructE, ICE, or an equivalent professional institution is desirable.
- Additional language skills, particularly French, Dutch, or German, would be advantageous.
