At BakerHicks, we're delivering some of the UK's most technically challenging and rewarding engineering projects across sectors including Power, Nuclear, Defence, Industrial, Aviation, and Public Infrastructure. As demand continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Contract Structural Engineer to support the delivery of complex building projects from our Motherwell office.

This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on engineer who can quickly integrate into project teams, take ownership of structural design packages, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions with minimal supervision.

What You'll Do

  • You'll work across a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from refurbishment works through to new-build developments, providing structural engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing and reviewing structural calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Delivering structural design solutions for steel, concrete, and masonry structures.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Supporting project delivery from concept through detailed design.
  • Managing your own workload and taking responsibility for delivering agreed outputs.
  • Contributing technical expertise across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Supporting design reviews and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking an experienced Structural Engineer who can independently deliver structural design packages and has strong experience within complex building projects. You'll ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (Structural bias).
  • Proven UK project experience within building structures.
  • Strong structural analysis and design capability.
  • Experience working on commercial, industrial, defence, power, public sector, or other complex infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver technical solutions.
  • Good knowledge of current UK design codes and standards.
  • Experience using structural design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, MasterSeries, Robot, or similar.

Candidates with primarily residential housing design experience are unlikely to be a suitable fit due to the complexity and nature of the projects undertaken by the team.

Why BakerHicks?

  • Work on nationally significant engineering projects.
  • Flexible hybrid working model.
  • Collaborative and highly experienced Civil & Structural team.
  • Diverse project portfolio across multiple sectors.
  • Opportunity to contribute immediately and make a genuine impact.
  • Potential for contract extension based on workload and project requirements.
