Thomasons is an employee-owned, independent multi-disciplinary construction and real estate consultancy, established in 1947 and operating across the UK through seven offices. The practice provides structural and civil engineering, building and quantity surveying, project management, and specialist services such as façade and forensic investigations. Teams work on a wide range of property types and structures, including residential, high-rise buildings, commercial, industrial, retail, and historic properties. With offices in Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London, Thomasons offers nationwide coverage and the opportunity to work on diverse, technically challenging projects. Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Newcastle upon Tyne, offering structural engineering opportunities within Thomasons’ multi-disciplinary team. We have opportunities for the following:

The roles involve contributing to the design and analysis of building and infrastructure structures, preparing calculations, drawings, and technical reports, and supporting the delivery of projects from concept through to completion. Daily tasks include collaborating with colleagues across disciplines, attending project meetings, coordinating with external stakeholders, and ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and client requirements. The position may involve site inspections, structural assessments, and input into investigations related to existing structures, defects, or damage. The role supports career growth through exposure to varied projects and the opportunity to take increasing responsibility in project delivery.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
- Candidates should possess excellent Analytical Skills to interpret data, perform structural calculations, assess risks, and solve engineering problems.
- Candidates for the Senior role should possess Project Management capabilities to help plan, coordinate, and monitor tasks, manage time and resources, and support delivery to agreed deadlines and quality standards.
- A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering and progress toward professional qualification (e.g., IStructE or ICE) would be highly beneficial.
- Experience with structural design software, familiarity with UK building regulations and standards, and the ability to work accurately with attention to detail are desirable.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment, demonstrate initiative, and adapt to a variety of project types and technical challenges is important.
