Role Description

The Structural Steel Detailer will produce accurate 2D and 3D steel fabrication drawings and models to support structural projects and lifting solutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Interpreting engineering and architectural drawings
- Developing detailed shop drawings for steel structures and connections
- Coordinating with engineers, project managers, and fabricators to resolve design queries
- Checking dimensions and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and codes
- Preparing clear documentation for fabrication and site installation
- Supporting constructability reviews
- Contributing to digital modelling workflows
- Assisting in revising drawings based on design changes or site feedback
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Port Talbot.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Steel Detailing and Steel Structures, with experience producing fabrication-ready details
- Ability to interpret and create Shop Drawings, including connection details and erection plans
- Competence in working with Architectural Drawings to coordinate structural steel layouts and interfaces
- Knowledge of Tekla is beneficial
- Experience using CAD and 3D modelling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or similar) for steel detailing
- Understanding of relevant UK and international design standards, fabrication practices, and construction methods
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and ability to work to tight deadlines and project milestones
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, fabricators, and site teams
- Relevant technical qualification in structural engineering, drafting, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
