Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Structural Surveyor / Structural Engineer (Surveys & Inspections) based in Macclesfield. The role involves carrying out structural surveys and inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties, including assessing structural integrity, identifying defects, and recommending remedial works.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare clear written reports, schedules of condition, and technical documentation for clients and stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits, measuring and recording structural details.
  • Review drawings and specifications.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other professionals.
  • Contribute to structural design solutions, supporting project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant British Standards, building regulations, and health and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Strong structural engineering knowledge, including understanding of building structures, materials, and common defects.
  • Experience conducting structural surveys, inspections, and assessments, with the ability to diagnose issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Proficiency in technical report writing and documentation, with clear, concise, and accurate written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction documents, and familiarity with relevant codes and standards.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a focus on safety and compliance.
  • Effective interpersonal and client-facing skills, including the ability to explain technical matters in accessible terms.
  • Competence in basic IT tools (e.g., MS Office) and, ideally, structural analysis or CAD software.
  • Relevant degree or qualification in civil or structural engineering, or a closely related discipline; professional registration (e.g., nearing or holding chartered status) is beneficial.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel locally for site inspections.
  • Ability to work independently on site and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
