Job Summary
As a Student Content Shaper, you will bring the UoB student experience to life by creating fun, engaging, and helpful content about being a student here in Birmingham. From making a ‘day in the life’ video to writing a blog on your favourite study spots, in this role you will cover a range of topics and themes. The role’s duration is until the end of the academic year 2025-2026 with the opportunity to continue in 2026-2027 if you are a continuing student. We welcome students from a range of backgrounds; undergraduate, postgraduate, home, international, mature, distance learners, etc.
Working alongside the Student Communications Team, you will have the opportunity to create different types of content from Instagram Reels, trending TikToks, YouTube vlogs, and blogs for our student communication channels including social media.
This role is based in the Student Services Division, part of Academic Services, which is at the heart of education and research endeavor at the University. The remit of this role is across the whole organisation – you will play an important role in the University’s student communications community and will work closely with colleagues in other key teams.
This is a broad role, but we are particularly looking for students who can contribute in the following ways:
- Presenting/participating in videos and photoshoots
- Creating and editing videos for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
- Writing blogs for Student News
Excellent communication skills are key, particularly those with an interest in being the focus of Instagram Reels, YouTube, and TikTok videos, whilst also being able to communicate effectively with other Content Shapers and the Student Communications Team.
Main Duties
- Create and edit video content to meet fixed deadlines and to an agreed brief, ensuring they meet brand guidelines.
- Create written content for blogs and web pages.
- Present in videos, filmed by students or staff at UoB, to help promote university services or important information and initiatives.
- Contribute to content ideas through meetings and chats.
- Engage with training opportunities to keep up to date with new social media channels or insights.
- Support the Student Communications Team with student communications, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
- Provide in-person support during events such as Welcome, Christmas, and UoB Xtra (social media and Stalls), communicating and supporting student queries.
- Work closely with other student content shapers and offering support where appropriate.
- Assist the Student Communications Team with other reasonable requests.
- Treat everyone with dignity and respect in line with current equality legislation.
- Other relevant criteria from our equality and diversity duties document. https://bham.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/sites/HRDC/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7B7c460d71-5114-45aa-b9dd-1692b59aeea4%7D&action=default&mobileredirect=true&wdLOR=c9C6EE5E6-2BA7-4815-B0F3-9429DB46E052

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
