About The Role
Student Employment Support Officer (Access to Internships)
INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
This part-time post is available from immediately on a fixed-term basis until July 2027. Applications for secondments will be considered subject to agreement from your current line manager.
The University of Exeter is an equal opportunity employer. We are officially recognised as a Disability Confident employer and an Athena Swan accredited institution. Whilst all applicants will be judged on merit alone, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently underrepresented in the workforce.
The starting salary will be from £30,878 on Grade D per annum pro rata, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
Job Summary
The Student Employability and Academic Success Team have a part-time, fixed-term opportunity for a highly organised individual looking to gain quality administrative and project management experience. You will work with a range of stakeholders including students and employers to provide an exceptional service while meeting the core aims of the university’s Success for All initiative. You will need to be confident using Excel and communicating with others to provide essential updates. In return, you will gain experience working with budgets, bespoke software, databases, and a range of people working on an initiative that aims to improve employability outcomes for underrepresented groups of students.
Main Purpose of the Role
You will play a key part in the successful delivery of the ‘Access to Internships’ (A2i) funding arm of the Internships team. This will involve administration of the service, guiding students through the application process, checking that applications fully meet eligibility criteria and working with employers and internal staff to set up internships and administer funding. You will build effective relationships with stakeholders which support and contribute to the delivery of the service, including employers, students, graduates, and funding bodies. You will need to have an excellent level of attention to detail to process finance requests using the University's finance system and maintain records using Excel.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
