The Role
The Student Engagement and Finance Officer is the first point of contact for students seeking advice and information. They will work as an embedded and fully collaborative member of the student wellbeing team while assisting the senior student finance officer in maintaining and implementing all BNU bursaries and financial support. The post-holder will provide effective, professional guidance, advice, signposting and sensitive support to students who are experiencing wellbeing difficulties affecting their ability to study. Providing appropriate guidance in a range of areas including enrolment and registration, financial support, disability and wellbeing concerns, course-related enquiries, and general administrative matters, making onward referral to other parts of the Directorate, Schools or University as appropriate.

Responsible to: Senior Finance Officer
Responsible for: Ensuring the best student experience is consistently delivered across all three campuses. Supporting the team and wider stakeholders.
Job Purpose
The Student Engagement and finance officer is the first point of contact for students seeking advice and information. They will work as an embedded and fully collaborative member of the student wellbeing team while assisting the senior student finance officer in maintaining and implementing all BNU bursaries and financial support. The post-holder will provide effective, professional guidance, advice, signposting and sensitive support to students who are experiencing wellbeing difficulties affecting their ability to study. Providing appropriate guidance in a range of areas including enrolment and registration, financial support, disability and wellbeing concerns, course-related enquiries, and general administrative matters, making onward referral to other parts of the Directorate, Schools or University as appropriate.
Main Duties & Responsibilities Of The Role
- Provide positive, action orientated customer service as first point of contact for students
- Efficiently assess the student’s need(s) or issue(s) to enable appropriate onward referrals to other parts of the Directorate, Schools or University as appropriate.
- Provide appropriate short-term support in the event of a student reporting a serious wellbeing issue.
- Assist the senior finance officer in maintaining and implementing bursaries and financial support offers including;
- Provide training and guidance to other Engagement officers in the team where appropriate
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to promote the universities financial support and bursary offers
- Assist in maintaining the information related to appropriate areas on the University website, systems, informative materials E.G leaflets/posters
- Provide appropriate advice, guidance and information in areas including (but not limited to); enrolment and registration, financial support, disability and wellbeing concerns, course-related enquiries, and general administrative matters
- Disseminate a range of information and guidance materials available to students.
- Assist in the maintenance of appropriate records and information statistics in relation to the frontline service
- Work as a team to ensure that the Student Engagement Officer function at other campuses when required, including offering a virtual advice service
- Support the University during events and busy periods, including graduation, enrolment, clearing and Bucks Welcome.
- Support transition activities such as Bucks Welcome and co-ordination of joining instructions.
- Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices
- Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
