The Student Experience Directorate (SED) within the University of Southampton is recruiting!
We are looking for motivated individuals, who strive to make a difference in operational, administrative and support roles, directly contributing to our students having the best possible experience while studying and living at the University of Southampton. The types of roles available are varied and aim to support the student lifecycle; from first contact with the University to career opportunities post-qualification, while also ensuring the wellbeing of all students during their time at University.
With a student body of over 24,000 students, a huge amount of support roles are required to guide students through their academic journey. Our roles require strong customer service skills, as you may be the first point of contact for all students who need help or support in any aspect of their life at University, or carrying out a role which collaborates with other professional services or academic colleagues to ensure the smooth running of programmes and courses through providing administrative support.
We are seeking motivated, proactive individuals, who are brilliant team players, with excellent communication and IT skills. You don’t need to have worked at a University before, or even attended University yourself, so long as you bring the right attitude and passion to work, we look forward to hearing from you!

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
