Department: Head of Studies

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Wigan & Leigh College

Compensation: £19,498 - £20,192 / year

Description

37 Hours per Week, Permanent
Term Time Only, 40 Weeks per Year

Follow up. Remove barriers. Help students stay engaged and succeed.

Attendance matters.

When students attend, arrive on time and stay engaged, they give themselves the best chance of success. When things start to slip, the right contact at the right time can make a real difference.

As our Student Liaison Officer, you’ll be part of the Head of Studies team, supporting students to improve attendance, punctuality and engagement.

You’ll monitor daily attendance, follow up absences and work with students, parents, carers and colleagues to address barriers to learning. You’ll use college systems and data to spot patterns, track actions and support timely intervention.

This is a role for someone who is organised, confident and proactive. You’ll need to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities and keep accurate records. You’ll also need to understand that attendance work is not just about chasing absence. It is about helping students build routines, access support and stay connected to college.

What you’ll do

  • Monitor daily attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow up absences quickly and appropriately.
  • Contact students, parents and carers to support attendance and engagement.
  • Work with students to understand and address barriers to learning.
  • Use college systems to record contact, actions and outcomes accurately.
  • Track patterns in attendance, punctuality and engagement.
  • Provide updates and reports to the Head of Studies and relevant colleagues.
  • Work with Personal Tutors, Heads of Department, Student Services and curriculum teams.
  • Refer students to internal or external support services where appropriate.
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes and escalate concerns promptly.
  • Support learner voice, engagement activity and continuous improvement where required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
