Job Overview
This 27-month programme combines academic study with work-based learning, enabling you to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required of a Nursing Associate. On successful completion, you will:
- Achieve a Level 5 Foundation Degree
- Gain eligibility for NMC registration as a Nursing Associate
- Progress into a Band 4 Nursing Associate role
You will be fully supported throughout the programme by the Practice Education Team, academic partners, and experienced clinical staff.
Main duties of the job
- Gain an awareness and understanding of the NMC standards of proficiency for Nursing Associates
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred care as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Undertake delegated clinical and care tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or other registered professional
- Understands the concept of evidence-based practice and ensure communication is clear, compassionate, and inclusive.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Must be willing to complete the Level 5 Foundation Degree within the allocated time frame
- Must comply with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedure
- Should be able to effectively manage competing demands of work, study, and placements

Person specification
Essential criteria
- GSCE grade 4 and above or Functional skills level 2 or equivalent in Maths & English
- Level 3 NVQ or equivalent
- Care Certificate
- Minimum 1 year's experience in a care setting and on a substantive contract within the RUH
- Proactive and takes responsibility
- Compassionate, safe, and effective care
- Values and respects others, treats everyone as an individual, is non-judgemental
- Meets the ESFA minimum funding requirements - resident in the UK for at least 3 years
- Able to work and cope with rotating shift patterns over a seven-day period
- Ability to self-directed learning
- Work within scope of practice
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a healthcare or related area
- Evidence of delivery or participation in direct patient care
- Being a positive role model
- Awareness and understanding of future role and responsibilities

Specific Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to undertake and record observation and communicate these effectively to appropriate members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Motivated and able to articulate reasons or desire to work in the clinical areas
- Able to deal with challenging behaviour displayed by patients and relatives
- Ability to manually handle patients and equipment
- Willingness to learn, open to change
