Student Safety & Security Manager
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Student Safety & Security Manager to lead the day-to-day delivery of campus safety and security across the College. This is a key role in ensuring our campuses remain safe, secure, welcoming and inclusive environments for students, staff and visitors.
You will have responsibility for coordinating the deployment and performance of our external security contractor, ensuring the right resources are in the right place at the right time. You will provide visible and approachable leadership across our campuses, working closely with colleagues across safeguarding, pastoral, curriculum and estates teams to identify risks, respond to concerns and promote a positive culture of safety.
About The Role
This is a varied and highly visible role that goes beyond traditional security management. You will develop a strong understanding of our student community and work collaboratively with colleagues to identify emerging concerns, support early intervention and ensure appropriate action is taken where there are safeguarding, behavioural or campus safety issues.
You will work closely with the Vice Principal/Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Safeguarding Team and Pastoral Managers, as well as external partners including the police and emergency services.
You will also act as a key operational link between the College and external agencies, ensuring relevant information, CCTV footage and incident evidence can be accessed and shared appropriately and promptly when required.
The Role Will Include
- Leading the day-to-day deployment and operational performance of contracted security personnel.
- Ensuring effective security coverage across College campuses, particularly during key activities, events and periods of increased risk.
- Providing clear operational direction and briefings to security personnel, ensuring they understand College expectations, safeguarding procedures and escalation arrangements.
- Maintaining a highly visible, professional and approachable presence across campus.
- Building positive relationships with students while maintaining clear and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Working closely with safeguarding and pastoral colleagues to identify and respond to concerns at an early stage.
- Recognising emerging patterns of behaviour or changes in presentation and ensuring concerns are shared appropriately.
- Supporting the management of significant incidents, including effective escalation, recording, evidence gathering and follow-up.
- Promoting early intervention, de-escalation and proportionate responses to challenging behaviour.
- Overseeing the operational use of CCTV, access control, alarms and other security systems.
- Working with Estates and senior leaders to identify and manage campus security risks.
- Supporting emergency planning, lockdown and critical incident arrangements.
- Supporting the College's responsibilities under the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (Martyn's Law) and wider protective security requirements.
- Liaising with the police, emergency services, security contractor and other external agencies.
- Monitoring the quality of the contracted security service and addressing issues relating to standards, conduct, deployment and performance.
- Producing accurate reports for senior leaders on incidents, emerging risks, patterns of behaviour and the effectiveness of security provision.

We are looking for someone with substantial professional experience in security, public safety or a comparable operational environment, together with the ability to lead confidently in a busy FE college setting.
You will ideally have experience of working with children and young people, preferably within a school, college or university environment, and will understand that effective campus security is about much more than responding to incidents.
You will be able to build positive relationships with students while confidently challenging inappropriate behaviour when necessary. You will have the judgement to make proportionate, risk-based decisions and the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging or high-pressure situations.
You will also have experience of managing or coordinating security provision and directing the work of others, together with experience of emergency planning, lockdown procedures and critical incident management.
Essential To The Role Is Experience Of
- Security management, public safety or a comparable operational service.
- Working with CCTV, access control and other security technology.
- Security-related investigations and evidence gathering.
- Working collaboratively with the Police and other external agencies.
- Safeguarding, information sharing and appropriate escalation of concerns.
- Maintaining accurate records and producing clear reports.
You will have a good understanding of security management and risk principles, safeguarding, GDPR and confidentiality, as well as the appropriate use of CCTV and security information. Knowledge of the Prevent Duty and Martyn's Law is also essential.
