Compensation: £43,046 - £50,709 / year
Description
Act as a lead operational safeguarding & welfare professional across campus on a rota basis. Provide advice, support and information to the student support team and students regarding safeguarding and welfare issues, developing, implementing and monitoring the health and welfare services for students, acting as a lead professional for safeguarding, supporting others with complex cases and actively implement activities and procedures designed to improve the health and well-being of students.
Interviews for this role will be held on the 01 October 2026.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
The following outlines the key duties expected of this role as directed by the Executive Director or relevant Director. It is not an exhaustive list but represents the primary responsibilities

Oversee the delivery of student safeguarding & welfare services, supporting and promoting internal good practice in reporting, tracking, monitoring and evaluation of college practices for Safeguarding and Welfare, demonstrating the impact of interventions, and supporting the development and delivery of CPD opportunities for staff on all aspects of welfare and safeguarding, in order to ensure student needs are met at all times.

Act as line manager for the Welfare Assistants across Medway and Maidstone, ensuring consistency of practice, high-quality student support, and compliance with safeguarding and welfare procedures. Provide work allocation, performance management, promote effective case management through supervision, and support the continuous development of staff to ensure a responsive and student-centred welfare service across all campuses.

Provide individual support, guidance and coaching to Welfare Officers and students across the College, assisting in the delivery and organisation of drop-in services, maintaining accurate and confidential records of disclosures and any cause for concern.

As DDSL provide leadership and professional oversight on complex and high-risk safeguarding concerns, undertake comprehensive risk assessment, co-ordinate multi-agency interventions ensuring safeguarding concerns are managed, referred or escalated appropriately. Ensure timely action is taken to safeguard students, maintaining accurate records and measure effective outcomes for those at risk of harm.

Lead on the review and development of welfare procedures and service improvements, providing assurance and advice on safeguarding/welfare risks, compliance and service effectiveness, making recommendations to the Director of Safeguarding and supporting the implementation of enhanced procedures.

Coordinate the management of all incoming and outgoing safeguarding files, ensuring compliance with KCSIE guidance, secure record keeping, and timely transfer of files within required timescales.

Oversee and quality assure student risk assessments, monitor and review them within agreed timescales, ensuring they remain relevant to need, and are updated following significant changes in circumstances.

Develop and maintain supportive working relationships with Directors, course teams, Progress & Performance Tutors and other College staff. Contribute to and deliver staff training and awareness sessions relating to student welfare, safeguarding, and wellbeing, achieving positive participant feedback and increased staff confidence in referral processes.

Support the evaluation and delivery of student support services, ensuring that 6-week intervention programmes are developed, monitored, reviewed, and evaluated with outcomes recorded and communicated to relevant stakeholders.

Lead the implementation and coordination of the Emotional Based School Avoidance programme, ensuring students receive appropriate interventions, progress is reviewed regularly, and attendance outcomes demonstrate measurable improvement.

Liaise with relevant external agencies in the community i.e. Health Authority, Social Services, and Housing Associations etc., to support students in need of external services assistance.

Act as Duty Manager as part of the College Duty Manager rota, to support the appropriate and timely response to and resolution of student issues and incidents.
