Purpose
The Study Manager is the leader of the project/study and is the main contact on technical and commercial matters and actions related to the project/study. The Study Manager is responsible for managing the safe and efficient execution of assigned pipeline projects and studies and supports and leads proposals as required.
The Study Manager ensures compliance with project/study contractual obligations, meeting Client and Company safety, quality and technical requirements within established budget and schedule constraints.
The role is focused on the successful delivery of onshore pipeline studies, including feasibility studies, route selection, concept development, optioneering, FEED and supporting integrity management & asset life extension projects.
This role will target a defined chargeable utilisation (80%).
Scope
Accountable for the delivery of projects within budget and in accordance with Company quality standards.

Direct Management Responsibility
Consultants, Graduate Engineers and Contractors as required
Role Responsibility
- Accountable for successful study/project execution and management of change.
- Responsible for ensuring purchase orders and variation orders are in place to cover all work completed for the Client.
- Accountable for the delivery of pipeline studies and front-end engineering activities within approved budgets and schedules.
- Identification of future opportunities with existing Clients; build Client relationships and improve Clients’ understanding of project drivers and challenges.
- Support Delivery Manager with Business Development campaigns to grow and diversify the pipeline and energy infrastructure market footprint.
- Responsible for proposal preparation, cost estimating and delivery of technical tenders.
- Working with operational teams (Consultants, Engineers and Designers), responsible for ensuring agreed project gross profit targets are achieved.
- Deliver projects in compliance with Company and Client processes and procedures.
- Accountable for the quality of services delivered, assessed through Client feedback and project performance.
- Collaborates closely with Resource Planners to ensure suitable project staffing and maximise utilisation.
- Liaise with Project Controls and Finance personnel to maintain accurate forecasts and project reporting.
- Provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams (as required), ensuring strong engagement and delivery focus.
- Collaborate with line management to support recruitment, development and retention of pipeline engineering personnel.
- Lead multidisciplinary pipeline studies including:
- Route selection and corridor assessments
- Constraint identification and GIS-based analysis
- Feasibility and concept development studies
- FEED engineering projects
- Pipeline mechanical design assessments
- Constructability reviews
- Installation engineering
- Geotechnical and geohazard assessments
- Crossing and landfall development
- Hydrocarbon, Hydrogen and CO₂ transportation studies
- Ensure technical risks and opportunities are identified and managed throughout project execution.
- Support continuous improvement and simplification of processes and tools, with a focus on digitalisation, GIS integration and efficient study delivery.
- Promote the application of industry best practice, lessons learned and technical governance across all projects.

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer
- Significant experience in onshore pipeline engineering and project delivery.
- Experience leading feasibility, concept development, route selection and FEED studies.
- Strong understanding of applicable pipeline codes and standards
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and Client interfaces.
- Commercial awareness including project budgeting, forecasting and proposal development.
