Join Britain’s Biggest Construction Project – HS2

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Now is a great time to join us and be part of a diverse team of nearly 9,000 people from over 80 nationalities working together to deliver major assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Whether onsite or office-based all colleagues have a key part to play in delivering this critical transport infrastructure project.

Current Opportunity: Sub Agent

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

The Sub Agent is responsible for the safe, on-budget and timely delivery for a defined section of works of Portal Buildings and Pumping Stations as assigned by the Construction Manager. The Sub Agent responsibilities include overseeing the site team and managing the day-to-day site operations, including the coordination and supervision of subcontractors. This role ensures that all construction activities are executed in line with the contractual requirements, while maintaining strict compliance with Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards.

This role includes the following duties:

  • Lead the preparation and planning for the delivery of the works, including resources, logistics, access, and construction readiness documentation.
  • Manage, coordinate, and supervise the day-to-day site activities from construction through to close out and ensure the works are performed to the contract requirements.
  • Manage, supervise, train and mentor the site team members to maintain high levels of operational control and support their professional development.
  • Oversee the site supervision including subcontractors’ performance and make sure alignment with project objectives and milestones.
  • Manage the internal and external interfaces with regards to the execution of the works, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
  • Advise and assist the commercial team in the preparation of all necessary contractual notices and instructions (under NEC contract).

Essential Experience:

  • Engineering Degree holder, or similar equivalent, with multi-disciplinary breadth.
  • Proven experience in managing subcontractors and working with a major contractor.
  • Excellent team player and team leader, reporting progress to the Project Manager / Construction Manager.
  • Highly organised with good management and coordination skills.
  • Strong on technical details and with good communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and current legislation and standards associated with all engineering aspects.
  • BBV behaviours, respecting equality and diversity.
  • Essential SMSTS minimum qualified. Temporary Works Coordinator desired.
