Main Responsibilities
- Review Stage 4 (Intent Design) and Stage 5 (Detailed Design) drawings to ensure designs are practical, buildable, safe and aligned with construction methodology.
- Report directly to the Preconstruction Manager and support the successful delivery of pre-construction activities across the SCS JV HS2 project.
- Identify constructability risks, clashes, sequencing issues and opportunities for design optimisation at the earliest stage.
- Facilitate and coordinate regular constructability review workshops with design engineers, temporary works engineers, construction teams and key stakeholders.
- Capture, track and close out actions arising from constructability workshops and design reviews.
- Work closely with engineering teams to develop and raise Temporary Works (TW) Design Briefs, ensuring all required construction inputs are incorporated. Attend TW meetings for each asset regularly.
- Liaise with Temporary Works Coordinators, designers and construction teams to ensure temporary works requirements are identified early and integrated into the design process.
- Produce clear sketches, mark-ups and concept drawings to communicate construction methodology, sequencing and design improvements in support of the engineering team.
- Review engineering details and specifications to ensure they are consistent and practical to construct, maintain and commission within the project constraints across all assets.
- Support the development of construction methodologies, sequencing plans and logistics considerations during the design phase.
- Promote Design for Construction (DfC) principles throughout the design development process.
- Ensure lessons learned from construction activities are captured and fed back into ongoing and future design reviews.
- Coordinate with design managers, discipline leads and construction teams to resolve constructability issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in identifying value engineering opportunities that improve safety, programme, cost and buildability without compromising quality or compliance.
- Support the management of design-related risks and contribute to the project's risk and opportunity registers.
- Ensure constructability reviews consider health, safety and environmental requirements in accordance with the CDM Regulations and HS2 standards.
- Foster collaborative working relationships between design, engineering, temporary works and construction teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by promoting best practice in constructability across the project.

The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
- Experience delivering reinforced concrete structures
- Experience with Temporary Works (or as TWS or TWC)
- Understanding of Engineering Principles
- Knowledge and Understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training.
- Extensive technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices.
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system, Primavera software).
- Relevant CSCS Card
- Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management
Desirable
- Top Down construction experience
- Previous Temporary Works Co-ordinator experience
About The Company
The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services
The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
