Role overview
We are looking for a sub-editor to work across our market-leading portfolio of business-to-business affordable housing publications, which includes Inside Housing, Inside Housing Management, Inside Housing Living and Social Housing.
The sub-editor will work as part of the editorial production team, subbing articles across our digital portfolio. They are responsible for ensuring articles meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy, including a fast-paced, steady stream of news, longform insight pieces, comment, sponsored content and CPD articles.
Main objectives
- Sub-edit copy in a CMS with a particular focus on grammar, spelling, style, tone and factual accuracy across Inside Housing, Inside Housing Management, Inside Housing Living and Social Housing
- Write engaging headlines, standfirsts and captions, and choose appropriate pull quotes where required, ensuring tone matches whichever brand you are working on
- Optimise SEO fields in the CMS, crafting search-friendly headlines, descriptions and keywords to maximise content visibility
- Lay out longform pieces in CMS, balancing copy, imagery and other page furniture, while maintaining house style
- Ensure potential legal problems with copy are identified
- Source photos from picture agencies and other royalty-free sources
- Crop images using Adobe Photoshop
- Upload imagery to CMS
- Juggle tasks across different brands in a busy editorial environment, confidently knowing what to prioritise
- Provide support on additional editorial tasks when required
- Be keen to learn and grow as part of a dynamic editorial team

Essential:
- Sub-editing experience
- Enthusiasm about sub-editing
- Excellent attention to detail for grammar, spelling and factual accuracy
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Used to working in a digitally focused environment
- Used to working on a CMS
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365
Desirable:
- Podcast editing experience (particularly Adobe Audition)
- Experience using Datawrapper or a similar data visualisation tool to create charts and tables
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
