Hearst UK operates an in office policy with flexible Friday's. Our office is based at House of Hearst, 30 Panton Street, St James's, London, SW1Y 4AJ, where teams collaborate in person and connect across brands and functions.
Salary
- £29,000 - Salary is dependent on experience and will be assessed in line with the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and relevant expertise.
The Role
As the Sub Editor, you will play a key role in ensuring editorial content is accurate, engaging and of the highest standard across our leading Lifestyle & Wellness brands, including Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, Prima, Red, Runner’s World and Women’s Health. Working closely with editorial, art, pictures and other teams, you will help guide content from copy stage through to finished pages, while supporting senior members of the subbing team during busy production periods.
Main Duties
- Sub-edit and fit editorial content and layouts, ensuring pages are accurate, clear and engaging for readers.
- Meticulously check facts, details and copy, identifying missing or incorrect information and resolving issues where needed.
- Rewrite and refine copy to improve clarity, flow and readability, while ensuring content meets each brand’s distinct tone of voice.
- Write compelling display copy, including headlines and other page elements, in keeping with established house styles.
- Coordinate legal checks where required and work with Marketing and other teams to ensure relevant pages meet their requirements.
- Second-read subbed layouts on proof and flag any copy, accuracy or layout issues to senior members of the team.
- Support the wider subbing team during busy periods, taking ownership and helping to ensure pages move smoothly through the production process.

What We Are Looking For
- Experience working on a consumer magazine or consumer-focused editorial title is desirable.
- Experience using Adobe InDesign and a content management system (CMS) is essential.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail, with a meticulous approach to checking information and copy.
- Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage several tasks and deadlines at once.
- Calm and effective under pressure, particularly in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the confidence to spot issues, find solutions and use initiative.
- A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for working with editorial, art, pictures and other teams to deliver high-quality content.
