Subcontract Specialist

Location: UK
Salary: Up to £55,000
Type: Permanent
Security Clearance: Eligible for UK SC clearance

I’m currently recruiting for a Principal Subcontract Specialist to join a major, long-term defence programme supporting the transformation of UK military training.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in a high-profile programme with significant national defence impact, managing strategic suppliers and subcontractors and helping drive operational performance across the supply chain.

The Role

As a Principal Subcontract Specialist, you’ll take ownership of key subcontracting activities and manage moderately sized contracts, working with suppliers to ensure performance remains aligned with programme and business objectives.

You’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy and work across a matrix environment, collaborating with commercial, programme, operational and technical stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing subcontractors and suppliers across contracts valued approximately between £10m–£40m.
  • Taking ownership of subcontract management activities with minimal oversight.
  • Managing smaller projects and subcontracting processes through to delivery.
  • Negotiating and managing contracts, NDAs, terms and conditions and associated commercial arrangements.
  • Applying strong subcontracting knowledge to resolve complex operational issues.
  • Monitoring supplier performance and driving improvements where required.
  • Working closely with internal teams, suppliers and customers to ensure alignment on policies, processes and contractual requirements.
  • Influencing operational decisions and contributing to improvements in subcontracting processes and systems.
  • Supporting planning and delivery of subcontracting activities across the programme.
  • Providing coaching and guidance to more junior members of the team.
  • Working across organisational boundaries within a joint/matrix environment.
  • Supporting the delivery of key programme objectives and operational outcomes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
