Job Summary
The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent (CASD), and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence. At least one of four nuclear-armed submarines, supported by smaller attack submarines, is on patrol at all times: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The primary delivery location for this position is Plymouth.

Job Description
The Devonport Waterfront Design Authority has an opportunity for a Professional Engineer who is experienced in supporting engineering delivery, innovation and implementation. The successful candidate will engage with stakeholders throughout the submarine enterprise to manage the engineering requirements of innovative projects to improve the capability of systems and equipment. The appointed engineer will facilitate improvements to platform availability through these projects.
Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Driving system maintenance process improvements for quality and efficiency.
- Conducting technical investigations and analysis for problem resolution and design improvements.
- Managing engineering technical requirements, specifically through design and integration phases.
- Promoting effective cooperation across engineering and project teams.
- Producing and influencing engineering management plans.
- Justifying decisions with sound engineering reasoning and applying technical governance.

Person Specification
For This Role We Are Seeking An Engineer Interested In Improving Delivery Of Submarine Projects And Improving The Operational Resilience And Safety. The Appointed Engineer Will:
- Manage engineering technical requirements, specifically through design and integration phases. Reporting on design reviews and identifying improvements.
- Provide technical expertise to projects and effectively communicating technical decisions to key stakeholders.
- Be responsible for the development and maintenance of system requirements.
- Seek ways to improve maintenance processes, reducing defects and enhancing the reliability and efficiency of systems and equipment.
- Lead continuous improvement activities to identify ways to improve maintenance processes and quality.
- Ensure adherence to relevant standards to ensure requirements are met.

Essential Criteria:
- Working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or equivalent relevant professional registration
- Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body at any membership level.
- Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
- Technical experience in their discipline or specialist area in a variety of contexts
