Job Summary
The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent (CASD), and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence. At least one of four nuclear-armed submarines, supported by smaller attack submarines, is on patrol at all times: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
The primary delivery location for this position is HMS Drake, Plymouth.

Job Description
The Devonport Waterfront Engineering Team has an opportunity for a Professional Engineer who is experienced in supporting engineering delivery of Submarine maintenance periods.
Main Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Leading the optimisation of Submarine maintenance packages providing best for enterprise outcomes.
- Derivation, planning and management of substantiated repair schemes.
- Derivation and substantiation of acceptance criteria balancing platform and program risk.
- Conducting technical investigations and analysis for problem resolution and design improvements.
- Providing line management to a team of professional engineers, promoting individual and team development.

Person Specification
For the Role We Are Seeking An Engineer Interested In Improving Delivery Of Submarine Projects And Improving The Operational Resilience And Safety. The Appointed Engineer Will:
- Manage engineering technical requirements, specifically through design and integration phases. Reporting on design reviews and identifying improvements.
- Provide technical expertise to projects and effectively communicating technical decisions to key stakeholders.
- Be responsible for the development and maintenance of system requirements.
- Seeking ways to improve maintenance processes, reducing defects and enhancing the reliability and efficiency of systems and equipment.
- Lead continuous improvement activities to identify ways to improve maintenance processes and quality.
- Ensure adherence to relevant standards to ensure requirements are met.

Essential Criteria:
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or equivalent relevant professional registration, or with the ability to obtain registration once in post.
- Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body, or with the ability to obtain membership once in post.
- Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
- Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with a broad understanding of the interdependencies between your work and related systems.
Professional registration and memberships are required within 6 months of starting the role.
