Role Summary

This position is expected to work directly with clients exercising his/her independent judgment and personal discretion on matters relating to claims, claims management, and claims resolution/settlement. The Subrogation Specialist will spend time on the telephone with claimants, clients, and attorneys. They will conduct initial investigations, negotiate resolution of claims, interview, and collaborate with counsel in preparation for litigation including assembling evidence, all designed to resolve issues facing George Hills clients. Position is fully remote with preference for candidates in California. Regular travel is required for mediations, settlement conferences, and hearings, which may exceed two hours each way.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The employee shall be asked to perform all of the following essential functions, and other duties as assigned.

  • Negotiates liability, settlements, and payment arrangements.
  • Develops resolution plans by determining filing solutions (i.e, arbitration, suit, and collection agency) to recover payments where subrogation potential has been identified on basic subrogation claims.
  • Interacts with field staff and investigative agencies/vendors to obtain documentation to assist in the recovery effort.
  • Places liability parties or their carriers on notice by correspondence and phone contact. Documents files to include: conversations with all parties related to the claim, correspondences, current file updates, subrogation analysis, file resolution recommendations, and applicable state negligence laws. Monitor claim throughout the subrogation process for final resolution.
  • Assists internal and external customers with the resolution of questions.

Candidates must have a valid California Adjuster License

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of experience with insurance claims, self-insurance, pooled insurance, or Joint Powers Authority.
  • Claims handling experience with Transit authorities preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $26.00 - $30.00

The salary range listed is an estimate. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors such as a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skill set, and work location. Position is eligible for AvonRisk’s full benefits package.
