Surveyor/Engineer (Subsidence)
The Surveyor/Engineer (Subsidence) will be a technically competent Civil/Structural Engineer with experience in providing expert input on subsidence and property-related claims. They will be confident carrying out site inspections, undertaking technical assessments and producing clear, well-structured reports to support liability and settlement decisions. They will be an effective communicator, able to liaise professionally with clients, colleagues, contractors, and other technical specialists, while maintaining a strong customer-focused approach. The role requires good organisational skills, the ability to manage workloads effectively and respond to changing priorities. The individual will work well both independently and as part of a wider Loss Adjusting team, contributing to the development of others where appropriate. A flexible and professional approach is essential, including a willingness to travel as required and a commitment to maintaining high technical and ethical standards.
Responsibilities
- To handle subsidence claims and provide technical support to Adjusters appropriate to the area of specialism.
- Investigate and manage claims and aspects of claims relevant to area of technical specialism, carry out site visits and preparing case management plans.
- Preparing reports commenting in detail on all aspects of the relevant specialist aspects of the claim, including policy analysis and liability, quantum and future actions.
- Instructing and controlling other relevant technical specialists as appropriate.
- Communicating regularly with all interested parties, calculating and approving interim payments, preparing interim reports and other communication.
- Calculating and agreeing settlement of claims, and preparing specialist aspects of reports or final reports.
- Maintain and update files and records keeping fully up to date on any technical or legal changes which may have a bearing on specialist area.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements at all times and highlight any contravention to the Head of Subsidence.
- Recommending and reviewing repair and mitigation solutions, including supervision or technical approval of underpinning, drainage works, vegetation management and other remedial schemes.
- Providing expert technical input on causation and causation disputes, including support for litigation, complaints, recoveries or repudiation decisions where required.
- Support business transition projects where appropriate.
- You will be expected to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required and notified to you by the Company.

Qualifications
- Professionally qualified Civil or Structural Engineer (Chartered status or working towards chartership).
- Relevant technical experience within civil/structural engineering, claims investigation or a related technical environment.
- ACII and/or ACILA qualifications would be advantageous.
