Substantive Rheumatology Consultant

We are currently seeking two Substantive Consultant Rheumatologists to join an enthusiastic, expanding Rheumatology service in North East England.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking department serving a population of approximately 600,000, in an area with a high prevalence of musculoskeletal disease.

The Rheumatology service is developing a modern multidisciplinary hub-and-spoke model, with significant investment to expand the Consultant team and build a comprehensive multidisciplinary workforce, including extended-scope physiotherapists, pharmacists, and specialist nurses.

The Role

The successful Consultants will provide a full range of outpatient Rheumatology services, while being encouraged and supported to develop areas of specialist interest.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Providing outpatient Rheumatology clinics.
  • Contributing to acute Rheumatology services on rotation.
  • Managing Rheumatology inpatients.
  • Reviewing internal Rheumatology referrals from acute medical and other hospital departments.
  • Working across outreach services as part of the wider Rheumatology team.
  • Supporting the establishment of a NICE-compliant Early Arthritis Service.
  • Contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
  • Participating in quality improvement and medical audit.
  • Contributing to research and teaching.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
