Javelin Global Commodities is a leading global commodities marketing, trading, logistics services and investment firm with head offices in London and wider global offices in New York, Dallas, San Diego, St Louis, Canada, Switzerland, Poland, Dubai, India, Singapore, China and Australia. Javelin was founded in 2015 and now operates across six continents with respect to more than 20 different commodities across thermal coal, metallurgical coal, iron ore, steel scrap, metals, hydrocarbons, freight, agriculture, and renewables.

What to expect during your internship:
Javelin's Internship offers a 6-week programme where our interns will rotate across the commercial teams and get to experience what it is like to work at one of the world's leading commodity businesses.
Induction Week
In your first 2 weeks you will be fully inducted into the business. You will have small group sessions covering each department to give you full oversight of how the business runs, alongside team building sessions with your fellow interns to build camaraderie. Our cohort of interns will go through the entire process as a group allowing for a shared experience with fellow commodity leaders of tomorrow. You will be partnered with a mentor for the entirety of your time at Javelin. This will be an industry expert who will guide you and fast track your learning experience so you can maximise your time in the firm.

Rotations
Following your induction weeks, you will rotate between the various commercial teams where you will gain more in-depth knowledge into how these teams work and how they contribute to the success of Javelin. Each rotation will provide a unique opportunity to experience first-hand the dynamic global commodity markets. This portion of the program is a crucial time where our interns will get a feel for the career opportunities available at Javelin whilst working with industry leading professionals. You will gather knowledge and appreciate the importance of customer service. You will focus on 3 trading desks:
- Bulk Commodities: This is one of the world's most successful bulk commodity desks; where Javelin is at the forefront of the global power, cement, steel and industrial bulk commodity markets. Javelin offers a full range of services within the bulk commodity markets, supplying everything from marketing to procurement and logistics to blend services
- Metals: Javelin is a global leader in the scrap steel, hot briquetted iron, pig iron, steel products markets and battery metals in our newest addition. This desk is very much part of the green journey for metals where the traditional markets are looking for lower carbon supply chains and the next wave of road transport will rely on the access to battery metals.
- Green: Combining proven technologies, innovation, and unrivalled market access, Javelin will support the transition to greener metals; recycling of waste; remediation of land; enhancement of soil as well as carbon capture. Javelin is engaged in a wide spectrum of bioenergy projects to help reduce carbon emissions in the power, farming and land remediation, industrial and steel sectors. Javelin's project support includes all our services including technical and commercial assessments to offtake, working capital and financial support. Javelin is working with major players in the green sector, the scale of the green projects at Javelin is huge and even still there is a massive scope for growth

Research Project
At the start of the programme, you will be assigned a strategic project that you will develop and progress throughout your placement. Supported by your mentor, you will leverage everything you have learned across the business to create a tangible opportunity, improvement or new process that could deliver value to Javelin. During your final week, you will focus on refining and perfecting your project before presenting your recommendations and outcomes to the senior management team, including the CEO. This unique experience offers the chance to make a lasting impact while gaining an authentic insight into the fast-paced world of commodity trading.
Requirements
Skills and Experience Required:
- Currently enrolled in a degree in a STEM, Business or Finance-related field
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- A strong interest in a career within the commodities industry
- Self-motivated and able to collaborate effectively with a global team
- Time management and organisational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritise work
- Excellent communication skills (listening, rapport building, negotiation)
- A creative mindset with a flair for problem solving
Interview Process:
The interview process will comprise of 3 stages:
- Interview with HR: This will be comprised of cultural questions to determine if you hold the Javelin values
- Functional Interviews: You will then meet with members of each team you will be working with and asked competency-based questions to assess your ability
