HS2 - Britain’s New High-Speed Railway

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway, is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Now is a great time to join us and be part of a diverse team of nearly 9,000 people from over 80 nationalities working together to deliver major assets including bridges, tunnels, and viaducts. Whether onsite or office-based, all colleagues have a key part to play in delivering this critical transport infrastructure project.

Role Responsibilities

  • Assisting site engineers in major engineering control activities.
  • Carrying out basic engineering controls as directed.
  • Carrying out checks on survey equipment.
  • Providing site operatives with information from drawings, schedules, and the specification.
  • Completing quality checks.
  • Keeping accurate records (diaries/photographs/site discussions).
  • Contributing to issuing of permits.
  • Occasionally giving briefings.
  • Attending safety inspections with senior management.
  • Identifying hazards and raising Unsafe Condition Notices.

Essential Experience

  • Having a friendly, flexible approach to your working day and a willingness to learn will be essential for this role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated individuals currently studying a Civil Engineering / Construction Management degree in their 1st or 2nd Year, available for 8 weeks from 20 July 2026. Priority will be given to candidates studying at a Midlands-based University or who are permanent residents within the area.
