Work environment/hours of work

• This position works both indoors and outdoors
• This position works weekday hours, with occasional evening, weekend and on-call hours

Driver’s Licence/vehicle Requirements

Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G or higher Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. An acceptable driver’s abstract will: be an original document and current (within the previous thirty (30) days); have no more than four (4) demerit points; have no more than two (2) convictions for the same offence; have no criminal code convictions; have no ‘non-medical or administrative’ license suspension in the preceding three (3) years; because this position may be required to drive their own vehicle, a reliable vehicle is also required.

Background Check Requirements

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to commencement of employment.

Essential Physical And/or Safety Requirements

• Bending: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching (multiple applications of bending occur during a shift on the pool deck.; frequent stooping, twisting and crouching to speak to a patron or deliver instruction; occasional kneeling, squatting and crawling to assist with program set-up which includes handling equipment)
• Sitting: frequent sitting in a chair (sitting frequently in a lifeguard chair while guarding pool; sitting occasionally in vehicle seats to travel to other pools for site visits, meetings; frequently sitting in a chair to conduct administrative tasks (computer duties, paper work, telephone, etc.))
• Standing: frequent standing inside (frequent standing on the pool deck for extended periods of time during a guarding or instruction shift; occasional standing to complete administrative tasks as desk lifts, waiting for printer, helping customers at desk)
• Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement), gripping, mousing (frequent gripping of a rescue tube/aid during guarding and instructing; infrequent or seldom pinching; computer work requires frequent keyboarding, mousing, scrolling; filing, paperwork, utilizing telephone, scanner, copier, fax machine, stapling, etc.); frequent fine finger dexterity when conducting pool tests, writing data in the log book, completing administrative tasks etc.)
• Climbing: frequent use of ladders on the lifeguard chairs during lifeguarding shifts; climbing stairs to basement or upper level to do opening or closing shifts and access storage, kitchen/basement rooms; also clear the route during a fire emergency, assist clients to the correct program locations

Benefits

This temporary full-time position has an hourly wage of $49.725 to $56.209 and will receive 15% in lieu of benefits (which includes group benefits, statutory & non-statutory holidays, and non-enrolment in OMERS) and 4% vacation pay. Where a permanent employee is receiving benefits and is the successful candidate for a temporary vacancy, benefits will remain as per the policy manual.
