The Role

Location: Manor Marine UK Ltd, Portland Port, Dorset, UK.
Contract Type: Full time, Permanent.
Department: Marine Engineering / Fitting.
Reports to: Vessel Build Manager / General Manager.
Supervises: Marine Engineers, Mechanical Fitters, Apprentices and Subcontractor Personnel.
Pay: Competitive industry rate, dependent on skills and experience.
Eligibility: Must have the right to work in the UK.

WE ARE SEEKING an experienced Supervisor for our Marine Engineering/Fitting department, responsible for planning and overseeing marine engineering, mechanical fitting and machinery maintenance activities across vessel construction, service, repair, and refit together with marine and general engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Marine Engineering/Fitting department, including team allocation, workload planning and performance oversight.
  • Supervise installation, repair, overhaul and maintenance of marine machinery and mechanical systems including engines, generators, pumps, valves, piping, gearboxes, shafting, couplings, fuel systems, and cooling systems.
  • Ensure machinery and shafting alignment, and machinery foundations, precisely meet required specifications and tolerances.
  • Oversee testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, ensuring all work is verified before vessel handover.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, machinery layouts, piping diagrams and technical manuals to guide the team's work.
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Naval Architects, Production and HSEQ teams to keep engineering and fitting activities aligned with project and company requirements.
  • Attend vessel/project coordination meetings as required.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability and a strong safety culture.

Essential

  • 3 to 5+ years' experience in vessel construction, service, repair, and refit together with marine and general engineering projects, ideally at senior technical/supervisory level.
  • Proven experience supervising marine fitters and mechanical trades.
  • Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong marine/mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Practical fitting and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
  • Sound problem-solving and decision-making.
