Company Description
Williams F1 Supplier Quality Engineers ensure that every externally sourced component meets the extreme performance, safety, and reliability standards required for our team to deliver against the mantra our car never stops on track. The role blends advanced manufacturing quality, supplier development, and rapid problem solving under tight timelines. Supplier Quality Engineers directly influence car performance by ensuring every component leaves the supplier and our factory to go to the track to the correct specification.
Job Description
Core Purpose
A Supplier Quality Engineer at Williams safeguards the quality of all purchased parts—metallic, composite, electronic, and precision‑machined—ensuring they arrive right first time and can withstand the challenges of F1 racing. They build strong supplier relationships, drive continuous improvement, and eliminate risks that could compromise car performance or reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Supplier audits — Assess, approve, and monitor suppliers through system, process, and product audits (ISO 9001, IATF 16949).
- Quality standards — Create and maintain Williams bespoke Quality SOPs, standards documents, and QMS procedures.
- APQP/PPAP — Validate new components using APQP, PPAP, FAI, and capability studies.
- Root‑cause analysis — Lead 8D investigations, RCA, and corrective/preventive actions for supplier‑related issues.
- Supplier development — Train, mentor, and technically develop suppliers to meet F1‑level precision and reliability.
- Quality metrics — Track PPM, defect rates, on‑time delivery, and escalate risks early.
- Control plans — Generate and implement product control plans aligned with engineering requirements.
- Issue resolution — Drive rapid, robust responses to quality concerns using structured problem‑solving.
- Cross‑functional collaboration — Work with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and race teams to ensure parts meet spec and arrive on time.

Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Engineering drawings & GD&T — Ability to interpret complex drawings and tolerances.
- Metallic materials — Knowledge of transmission manufacture, complex machining and associated QC techniques.
- Composite materials — Understanding of carbon fibre lay‑up, autoclave curing, resin infusion, etc.
- Quality tools — Six Sigma, Lean, 8D, FMEA, CAPA.
- Quality management systems — ISO 9001 or similar QMS experience.
- ERP systems — Familiarity with D365 or equivalent.

Typical Candidate Profile
- Engineering or Quality degree.
- Experience in high‑tech, motorsport, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and rapidly changing specifications.
- Willingness to travel for supplier visits and audits
