Kick-start your career in Operations with this hands-on apprenticeship
Gain real experience across the supply chain, from kit assembly and warehousing inventory control. With full training, mentoring, and exposure to a regulated environment, you'll build practical skills while supporting team projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Work alongside experienced colleagues across Operations, gaining hands-on experience in kit assembly, warehousing, inventory, and dispatch. You'll support product assembly, stock management, order fulfillment, and documentation, while learning quality, safety, and ISO-compliant processes. With full training and guidance, you'll develop practical skills, contribute ideas for improvement, and gain insight into the complete production journey from start to finish.
To work as part of a team in executing tasks as directed by the Inventory and Dispatch Manager including, but not limited to, the following activities:
The apprentice will work as part of a team and carry out tasks with guidance and supervision, including:
- Assisting with final product assembly
- Learning how to safely handle materials (including receiving training for dry ice handling)
- Supporting the printing of instructions (IFUs) and kit labels
- Helping to monitor stock levels in the kit assembly area
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace
- Supporting stock replenishment processes (e.g. raising Material Transfer Forms with guidance)
- Assisting with picking and packing items in dispatch
- Supporting order processing and warehouse activities
- Learning how to complete documentation accurately in line with quality procedures
- Following company procedures and reporting any issues to a supervisor
- Following health & safety guidelines at all times
- Contributing ideas for improvements during team discussions (with support)

Course contents
- Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
- Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
- Receive products in line with organizational procedures.
- Store and pick products in line with organizational procedures.
- Dispatch products in line with organizational procedures.
- Decant, pack products in line with organizational procedures.
- Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
- Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
- Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
- Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
- Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
- Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper-based, required to fulfill contractual requirements.
- Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
- Support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock-taking activities relevant to the organization and product.
- Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
- Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
- Follow equity, diversity, and inclusion rules.
- Carry out and record learning and development activities.
- Conduct handover activities.

The education will be from Cambridge Regional College and with an assessor's guidance.
We will also offer the opportunity to shadow other departments within the company to get an idea of their day-to-day work and their roles within the manufacturing process.
This would include office administration, laboratory manufacturing, and quality control.
GCSE in:
- English (grade 3 or D)
- Maths (grade 3 or D)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Common applications include Cancer diagnostics, Prenatal and postnatal testing, Cytogenetic laboratories, and research applications.

Successful completion of the apprenticeship can open doors across the business. Apprentices may progress within the Supply Chain team or explore opportunities in other departments within the company as they become available.
