£49,500 to £58,500 + up to 6% bonus
Location: Nottingham
Working pattern: Hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days a week on site
Travel: Occasional travel between offices and to other sites and supplier locations as required
Location requirement: This role is contractually based in Nottingham. However, we're open to candidates who wish to work from our Warwick office, with travel to Nottingham required as needed.

About the role

As a Supply Chain Lead, you'll help shape how National Gas sources goods and services across the business, ensuring we secure value, quality, and reliability to support the safe and efficient operation of the gas transmission network. You'll lead on a variety of strategic sourcing and supplier activities, including analysis, supply market research, identification, and qualification of potential vendors, preparation of tender documentation, management of competitive sourcing processes, analysis of bidder responses, negotiation, and contract award that directly contribute to delivering critical infrastructure and business priorities.

You'll play a key role in driving value, managing risk, and helping the business make informed purchasing decisions that deliver long-term benefits.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead sourcing and tender activities that deliver value, reduce risk, and support business priorities
  • Support in the development of project sourcing strategies for higher value, higher complexity projects, applying analysis of relevant category data, and internal & external insight
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned to organisational objectives and long-term requirements
  • Develop an expert knowledge of your supplier marketplace within assigned categories to ensure credibility with internal stakeholder
  • Lead in the development and management of a comprehensive project plan for strategic projects which includes key dates, resources, and critical path
  • Understands the specific needs of the business and ensures these needs are met within the overall Supply Chain strategy
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders to achieve the best commercial outcomes
  • Lead and preparation of complex negotiations on contracts, pricing, and terms to maximise value and performance
  • Use market insight, spend analysis, and supplier intelligence to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement
  • Support and influence colleagues across the business by promoting procurement best practice and informed decision making
  • Lead in acquiring relevant materials and long lead items for major projects
  • Work in collaboration with the central Supply Chain team to develop supply chain strategies that leverage centralised advantages, considering local market conditions while aligning with organisation-wide goals

What you’ll bring

This role would suit someone who enjoys influencing commercial decisions, building strong supplier partnerships, and turning market insight into tangible business value.

Essential

  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain leadership roles
  • Good understanding and experience of key practices in construction
  • Demonstrates good level of knowledge of construction contracting suites including NEC
  • A strong track record of delivering commercial outcomes and continuous improvement across multiple categories or projects
  • Experience leading end-to-end sourcing activities, from requirements definition through to contract award
  • Strong supplier management and contract negotiation skills
  • Ability to analyse data, market trends, and supplier performance to support decision making
  • Confident stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility at all levels
  • Strong project management capability, with experience delivering complex sourcing initiatives from start to finish
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience working within a regulated, engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or asset-intensive environment
  • Knowledge of procurement legislation, governance, or compliance requirements
  • Experience supporting or implementing category strategies
  • Degree qualification (or equivalent) in Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, IT, or a related discipline
  • MCIPS qualification, or working towards it
