Supply Chain Manager

Procurement, Component & Commercial Lead

Scope of Role

This is a wide and varied role covering Procurement, Component Management, and Commercial activities.

You will take overall responsibility for the team, using your communication and influencing skills to build strong working relationships—both internally and externally.

You will:

  • Oversee purchasing for inventory (workshop) and non-stock items across the business.
  • Provide leadership and direction to teams managing component procurement, including spares and repair services for key customer accounts.
  • Optimise workshop procurement and material supply to balance availability vs cost.
  • Represent the company in all purchasing matters, both internally and externally.

As a key leader, you will develop talent, inspire your team, and drive high engagement—ensuring a professional, positive, and collaborative culture.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

Procurement

  • Manage overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of procurement strategies.

    • Set policy and guidelines for cost-reduced procurement.
    • Analyse market and delivery trends to develop/improve procurement technologies.
    • Implement strategies to ensure supply security and best value.
  • Purchase goods, materials, components, or services while adhering to technical, quality, and delivery requirements.

    • Support order accuracy and on-time delivery to meet customer and company demands.
    • Maintain inventory and stock levels to support delivery targets and Work Order turnaround.
    • Optimise inventory holding to meet capability and financial stock targets.

  • Monitor procurement KPIs materials:

    • On-time delivery
    • Overdue orders
    • Open orders
    • Order acknowledgements
    • Reorder points
    • Delivery forecasts
  • Update ERP system with up-to-date statuses and delivery dates.

  • Negotiate supplier terms to secure better conditions and identify new supplier opportunities.

    • Build relationships with key OEM and preferential suppliers for exclusive service, pricing, and lead-time commitments.
    • Conduct RFQs, evaluations, negotiations, and sourcing activities.
  • Cost management and supplier compliance:

    • Drive annual cost reductions and minimise supplier cost increases.
    • Ensure compliance with government laws, regulations, and company policies.
    • Review purchasing performance data for effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Support new repair capability and participate in make/buy evaluations.
    • Assist the engineering team in spares costing for projects.
  • Ensure full lifecycle support for procured materials.


Component Management

  • Handle major customer pricing and delivery enquiries, including follow-ups.
  • Manage large customer order books (contracts for material supply and subcontract services).
  • Oversee outsourced repairs and provider selection.
  • Administer daily commercial activities while meeting TRT/KPI metrics per contract.
  • Maintain customer portals and databases with updates on:
    • Contract variations
    • Delivery forecasts
    • Change notes
    • Vendor details
    • ITAR status
  • Ensure efficient, professional service aligned with customer needs.

Commercial

  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities in:
    • Supplier selection
    • Used Serviceable Material (USM) vs new OEM material
  • Assist Product Team Leaders in managing:
    • Breakdown spares
    • Breakdown units
    • Increase usage of breakdown units.
  • Monitor material and labour costs, especially price fluctuations, to maintain gross margin targets.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Director to ensure:
    • Compliance with Licence Agreement commitments (e.g., turnaround time, stock, royalties).
  • Provide analytical support for:
    • Market appraisals
    • Financial returns on workshop capability projects.
  • Attend trade shows, exhibitions and visit vendors/customers as required.
