Role Summary

Vital link in the supply chain, ensuring seamless flow of goods from delivery to dispatch

  • Unload, inspect, and log inbound shipments
  • Safely transport, store, and organise stock using specialised equipment
  • Pick, pack, and check outgoing orders against delivery notes
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to maintain stock accuracy
  • Maintain a secure, clean, and compliant warehouse environment

What You'll Learn

Course Contents

  • Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
  • Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.
  • Conduct handover activities.

Training Schedule

The apprentice will have a blend of online and onsite meetings with their assessor every 4-6 weeks until completion of the apprenticeship.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)
    • Maths (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other Requirements

  • Applicants will need to have their own transport as the site is 2 miles outside of Buntingford
  • Whilst protective clothing will be provided, time will be worked outdoors in all weathers
  • Candidates must be aged 18 or above due to the working hours

We stock a large range of diverse products for all jobs including underground drainage, soil and vent, waste pipe and fittings, copper plumbing, bricks, sand & aggregate, blocks, insulation, loft rolls, radiators, towel rails, bathroom suites, timber, wooden sheet material, PSE finish timber concrete & steel lintels and patio and driveway paving. We also keep a well stocked trade counter which includes ancillary items such as screws, nails, jiffy hangers, builders metal work, hand tools, paint brushes, paint and much much more!

Using our own fleet of vehicles we aim to offer a fast and efficient delivery service to local area including Buntingford, Royston, Ware, Hertford, Bishop's Stortford, Standon, Letchworth, Stevenage, Baldock and many more. We also use an extensive network of couriers to ship goods from Aberdeen to Southampton and everywhere inbetween!
