About Edgbaston Nursery
Hi, I’m Zareena, the Nursery Manager at Edgbaston.
With 23 years of experience working with children and families—and 13 of those as part of the incredible Edgbaston team—I feel truly honoured to lead such a passionate and dedicated group of Early Years Educators. Together, we create a nurturing and inspiring space where our children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.
At Edgbaston, we champion curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. Our experienced team recognises that every child is unique, which is why we tailor learning experiences to meet each child’s individual pace, interests, and needs—fostering confidence and independence from the very beginning.
What truly sets us apart is our Hygge accreditation—a Danish-inspired philosophy that emphasises warmth, well-being, and a calm, cosy atmosphere. This means our children enjoy a truly home-from-home setting, where they can explore, play, and grow in comfort and security.
We're also proud to be family-focused. Our parent reception area is a welcoming space where families can relax, grab a coffee, hot chocolate, or a piece of fruit from our snack bar, and enjoy a gentle start to the day.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

How you’ll spend your time here
- You’ll be helping to provide cover for the children as and when needed. This could be for periods of holiday, sickness, or even vacancy gaps. Sometimes you'll support for a full day, or it may just be a morning or afternoon session.
- You'll likely start most of your days with a fully formulated plan.... That will soon get completely derailed though... Pivoting when the circumstances call for it is a regular occurrence in child care!
- Creativity is key. Teaching young children allows for hands on arts and crafts, storytelling, exercise, and educational games. It’s important to keep things fresh and try new activities to keep attention spans engaged. Of course we work within the EYFS standards, but that doesn't stop you from engaging your creative flair and enthusiasm for learning.
We’d love to talk to you if you have the following
- You are Level 2 or above qualified or have experience in an early years setting, and you're looking for a role that allows you flexibility of working shifts around your other commitments.
- You enjoy supporting and encouraging the natural curiosity and excitement of young children and were born to teach and shape the future of our younger generations.
- You have a natural, nurturing, openness, a warm and positive outlook, and you care about learning and education standards in the UK.
What you'll need
- A full and relevant Level 2 or above qualification within early years or relevant early years experience
- Experience as an Early Years Educator (Nursery Nurse/Practitioner) or having worked with children under the age of 5, is advantageous
- Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS is desirable
- Reflecting the Storal values around responsibility, openness and working together
