Support Associate

The Belfast Soup Kitchen is looking for an energetic, physically active Support Associate to join our team! If you like staying on your feet, moving heavy inventory, and keeping food stock organized - all while making a real, direct impact on your community - we want to hear from you.

We are looking for someone who will uphold BSK values and vision by supporting our staff, volunteers, and guests in an atmosphere of cheerfulness and caring with dignity and respect.

The Details

  • Hours: Full-Time (35–40 hours/week)
  • Pay: $18.00 – $19.00 / hour (Commensurate with experience)
  • Schedule: Day-to-day flexibility is required, including some weekends.

Primary Requirements

  • Physical Capability: Ability to safely and consistently lift, stack, and move heavy crates and boxes (50–75 lbs) throughout the day.
  • Safe Food Handling: Understanding of safe food storage, temperature controls, and inventory rotation.
  • Valid Driver’s License: Clean driving record required for running local donation pickups.
  • Education: High School Diploma / GED
  • Public Experience: 1+ years working with the public—strong customer service and a team-first attitude.
  • Skills: Basic Computer & Math Skills: Comfortable with basic computer use (Word, Excel, light data entry) and confident math skills.

Responsibilities

This is a physically demanding role; you will be lifting, moving, and walking throughout your shift.

  • Receive & Unload: Safely unload incoming delivery trucks and local donation pickups; sort, weigh, and stock items in the facility.
  • Inventory Management: Organize storage areas, maintain FIFO (first-in, first-out) stock rotation, and track incoming food items.
  • Donation Pickups: Drive our vehicle to local community partners to collect food donations and bring donations back to the kitchen.
  • Food Processing: Assist with food dehydration, packet production, and packaging frozen prep meals.
  • Supporting Roles: Cross-train to cover staff absences, assist guests warmly, and complete light administrative data entry as needed.
