Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Medical Secretary to work within the Medicine division based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided.

Requirements

  • Possess 4 GCSE's (grades 9 - 4 or C - A) or equivalent
  • RSA stage 3 typing, word processing (or have equivalent experience)
  • Ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels

Job Details

  • Position Type: 12-month fixed term
  • Hours: 18.5 hours per week

Main Duties of the Job

  • Produce accurate clinical and general correspondence
  • Regularly use complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription
  • Respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive, and difficult enquiries

The successful applicant will join a busy team comprising of Higher Level Medical Secretaries and Support Medical Secretaries. The post holder is pivotal in the patient’s relationship with the hospital, the clinical team, and the Consultants. The team support each other to organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided.
