Job Overview
We are looking for a support secretary to join the Care of the Elderly Team. You must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and medical teams, have the ability to work under pressure, have excellent time management skills, and the ability to problem solve.
Role Description
The role of the support secretary is to provide support to the admin team within the department, dealing with referrals, liaising with the medical team, and the production of clinic letters amongst other general duties. This role is also to support the discharged inpatient side of the department which will include the checking of discharge summaries, checking results, and general inpatient queries that come in for the Consultants once the patient has been discharged from the ward.
Previous administrative experience is desirable, but not essential as full training will be given. School leavers are also very welcome to apply. Medical terminology is desirable but not essential. Our ideal candidate will be flexible, adaptable, and willing to work as part of our busy team and cross cover as necessary when required which may involve swapping working days on occasion but plenty of notice would be given.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
