Overview Of Role
Do you have experience of working in a mechanical/electrical environment? If so, we would like to hear from you.
We have a great opportunity for Support Technicians to work with the Signals Team. Your role will be to provide assistance and support in the delivery of maintenance and installation activities on all field-based London Underground Signalling equipment and systems.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist and support in the delivery of maintenance and installation activities on all field-based LU Signalling equipment and systems
- Prepare tools, equipment and any other resources (equipment is manual or powered)
- Assist maintaining equipment to relevant standards and work instructions
- Assist with testing to prove conformity to standards
- Assist in identifying faulty equipment by means of testing
- Assist with checks on equipment for defects and prepare for use prior to installation
- Follow and adhere to work directions and instructions
- Complete and deliver of all aspects of assigned work
- Hold and maintain appropriate licenses

- You will have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and written (Essential)
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a safety critical and challenging environment (Essential)
- You will be able to work as part of a team (Essential)
- Ability to receive, understand and undertake work instructions (Essential)
- Demonstrated ability to recognise scenarios /instances where escalation of issues is appropriate (Essential)
Knowledge
- Hold valid Entry Permit/Lucas Card (Desirable)
- Hold or ability to hold relevant Track and Safety licences inc. Individual Working Alone (IWA) (Essential)
- Hold or ability to hold Safety Critical Licence / PWT/EH (Essential)
- You will hold current clean manual driving licence and be willing to drive company vehicles (Essential)
- Ability to obtain and hold IRSE Licence cat 1.4.100 (Assistant Signalling Maintainer) (Essential)
Experience
- Experience of working in a mechanical/electrical environment (Desirable)
- Experience of working in a railway environment (Desirable)
- Experience working Nights/Shift Work (Desirable)

Assessment Process
The Recruitment Process Consists Of The Following Stages. You Will Need To Pass Each Stage To Progress Onto The Next
Stage 1: Online Application Form and screening questions
As part of the application process, you will be asked a number of screening questions, you will need to pass the pre-screening criteria to be eligible to go through to stage two.
Please ensure you answer these questions carefully and ensure you check your answers before you submit your application. Once your application has been submitted, you will be unable to edit your answers, and your application will be declined if you do not meet the required criteria.
Stage 2: CV and Covering letter Review
Stage 3: Scenario-based interview with technical questions (face-to-face in London)
Please note: Following the CV and Covering letter Review stage, should we receive a high number of shortlisted applicants, we may add an additional assessment in the process which will consist of a Classroom based Technical Test in London.
Campaign Timetable
The campaign is running to a very specific delivery timescale as determined by the business and there will only be enough slots for the number of candidates invited. Dates for the Assessment Centre will be opened on an ongoing basis, therefore if there are no slots available, please check again the following day. You are encouraged to schedule into an assessment event as early as possible. If you do not book an assessment, you will be withdrawn from the campaign.

Notice of Cancellation
We require you to give a minimum of 48 hours' notice of cancellation or re-schedule. Non-attendance at your Assessment Event may lead to your application being withdrawn.
Please note: Your assessment may be rescheduled once only and reschedules will only be granted if there are assessment slots available, so please make sure you check you can make an appointment before booking. Subsequent cancellation may lead to your application being withdrawn. If you do not follow the process outlined in the Candidate Charter, you risk being withdrawn from the campaign.
Outcomes
Outcomes for the assessment will be provided 10-14 days after your assessment event.
Appointment to post
Candidates must successfully pass our pre-employment checks such as a Data Barring Service (DBS) check and employment referencing. Failure to pass any of these will result in the offer of employment being withdrawn at any stage.
This is a safety critical role so you will need to get clearance from our Occupational Health team before you start.
Although you may be successful and offered the role – you may not commence employment in the role or start training immediately. There may be a requirement to delay your start date until you are required.
Training
Appointment to the post is subject to successful completion of a full-time training course which will take 5 weeks to complete depending on licences currently held, including classroom based training and live station training. Candidates who do not pass the training will have their offer of employment withdrawn.
Location
You could be based anywhere in the Greater London area, depending on business requirements.
