Job Title: Support Worker
Location: Bleasdale Supported Living, Knottingley
Hours: 20 Hours per Week
Working Pattern: Shift work, including sleep-ins, weekends, and lone working
We are looking for a caring, committed, and reliable Support Worker to join our team at Bleasdale Supported Living in Knottingley.
This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 support to a 70-year-old gentleman, helping him to maintain his independence and enjoy an active lifestyle within the community.
Main duties of the job
- Providing 1:1 support in a supported living environment. Supporting with all aspects of daily living and promoting independence.
- Assisting with personal care whilst maintaining dignity, privacy, and respect.
- Encouraging and supporting participation in activities and hobbies.
- Accompanying and supporting community access, including shopping trips, meals out, cinema visits, pub visits, and days out.
- Supporting the individual to attend appointments and social engagements.
- Assisting with meal preparation and maintaining a safe home environment.
- Building positive and professional relationships whilst providing companionship and emotional support.
- Promoting choice, independence, and wellbeing at all times.
- Completing daily records, reports, and relevant documentation accurately.
- Administering medication in line with company policies and procedures (where trained and competent).
- Working independently during lone-working shifts and responding appropriately to any issues that arise.
- Working a flexible shift pattern, including sleep-ins, evenings, bank holidays, and weekends.
- Following safeguarding, health and safety, and company policies at all times.

Job Purpose
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide high-quality, person-centred support to a 70-year-old gentleman living in a supported living service. The role focuses on promoting independence, choice, dignity, and wellbeing while supporting the individual to lead an active and fulfilling life both at home and within the local community.
The successful candidate will build positive relationships and provide practical and emotional support, enabling the individual to achieve their personal goals and maintain their independence.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support tailored to the individual's needs, preferences, and aspirations.
- Support and encourage the individual to maintain independence and make informed choices about their daily life.
- Assist with personal care whilst promoting dignity, privacy, and respect at all times.
- Support with medication administration in line with company policies, procedures, and training.
- Complete medication records accurately and report any concerns in accordance with company procedures.
- Encourage participation in social, leisure, and recreational activities both at home and within the community.
- Support regular community access, including shopping trips, meals out, pub visits, cinema visits, drives out, and other activities of interest.
- Assist with meal planning, preparation, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
- Support the individual to attend appointments and maintain community links.
- Provide emotional support and companionship, helping to promote confidence, wellbeing, and social inclusion.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable home environment.
- Accurately complete daily records, reports, and other documentation as required.
- Identify and report any safeguarding concerns, incidents, accidents, or changes in wellbeing.
- Work independently during lone-working shifts whilst maintaining professional standards and seeking support when required.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, healthcare professionals, and other relevant agencies.
- Follow all policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health and safety, medication, confidentiality, and person-centred care.
- Participate in training, supervision, and team meetings as required.

Person Specification
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Have a caring, compassionate, and patient nature.

- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be confident working independently and using their own initiative.
- Be flexible and willing to work shifts, sleep-ins, and weekends.
- Hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to drive as part of the role.
- Have a positive attitude and a genuine desire to make a difference in someone's life.
Previous experience in care or support work is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.
