Education Support Worker - Newton Abbot
Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting for an Education Support Worker to join a supportive specialist education setting in Newton Abbot, Devon.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a caring, dependable individual who wants to work closely with young people and make a positive difference to their education, confidence, and wellbeing.
The role involves supporting pupils who may experience SEND, emotional needs, complex trauma, and behavioural challenges. You will provide practical support with learning alongside consistent encouragement, mentoring, and positive role modelling.
With temporary-to-permanent opportunities available, this role could be ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career working with young people.
The Role
You will work as part of a dedicated education team, supporting pupils on an individual and small-group basis.
Every day will be different. You'll help pupils access their learning, develop independence, and manage challenges, while creating a calm and positive environment where they feel safe and supported.
The role requires someone who is comfortable taking responsibility, working independently, and using their own initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with their day-to-day education and learning.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring and pastoral support.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
- Help pupils manage emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, resilience, and independence.
- Support pupils to develop communication, social, and practical life skills.
- Work alongside teachers and other professionals to deliver individualized support.
- Follow individual support plans and agreed strategies.
- Monitor pupil engagement, behaviour, and progress and maintain appropriate records.
- Identify and report safeguarding or welfare concerns appropriately.
- Support pupils during activities and occasional off-site appointments or meetings.
- Adapt your approach according to the needs of individual pupils.

You don't need to be an experienced teacher or education professional to be successful in this role. The right attitude, personality, and approach are just as important as qualifications.

Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
- Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable.
- Enhanced DBS clearance, or willingness to obtain one, prior to starting.
Qualifications & Experience
A qualification or previous experience in Teaching Assistance, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, Education, Childcare, or a similar field would be beneficial but is not essential.
Full training and support will be provided to help you develop into the role.
