Role Overview

Mencap are seeking Support Workers on both permanent and relief contracts to join our incredible teams in our services in Northallerton.

About the Role

As a Support Worker, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs.

From assisting with daily activities to providing emotional support, you’ll play a vital role in their life.

We support three gentlemen who live together in a supported living service in Northallerton. We are looking to grow our lively, inclusive, knowledgeable and exceptionally friendly staff team.

The gentlemen we support lead individual lifestyles and enjoy a variety of activities, including attending day opportunities, visiting local cafés, spending time with family and friends, going out in the community, and taking part in activities that reflect their personal interests.

Two of the gentlemen are older and enjoy a more relaxed pace of life, while the third enjoys regular community involvement. The people we support have a range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism, mobility needs, and support with communication and emotional wellbeing.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Some individuals require support with mobility and personal care, while others benefit from gentle encouragement and reassurance to access activities, maintain routines, and engage with their local community. We use a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach, focusing on understanding each person's needs, promoting independence, and supporting positive outcomes.

This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same, and where building meaningful relationships is at the heart of the support we provide.

Contract Options

  • Permanent Hours: 30
