Job Description
We're looking for a compassionate, motivated and resilient Support Worker to join our dedicated team.
About the Role
As a Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in helping people experiencing homelessness rebuild their lives. You'll provide practical and emotional support, work alongside guests to achieve their goals, and help create a safe, positive and supportive environment where people can thrive.
Responsibilities
- Provide practical and emotional support to guests

- Support guests to reconnect with the community and experience positive activities
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of The Bus Shelter when on duty
Key Activities
- Key working sessions and accompanying guests to appointments
- Helping someone move into their own home
- Staffing the service on a rota basis
- Responding to the needs of guests
- Answering the phone and door
- Welcoming visitors
- Completing general administration tasks
- Filing, updating records and ensuring the service remains safe, organised and welcoming

Working Conditions
- Periods of lone working
- Supporting people who may display challenging behaviours due to trauma, mental health or substance misuse
Requirements
- Full training, support and guidance will be provided
- You'll need to be confident making decisions, managing situations calmly and knowing when to seek additional support
What We Offer
- £13.45 per hour
- 30 contracted hours per week
- 6.6 weeks annual leave (pro rata, inclusive of bank holidays)

About Us
The Bus Shelter Dorset offers rough sleepers or those at risk of homelessness a safe place to live with access to a supportive community environment and 24-hour high support tailored to meet their individual needs. In 2022 we were awarded the “Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service”.
