Surgical Escalation Lead

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our Surgical Division as a Surgical Escalation Lead. The post holder will provide visible clinical leadership across surgical services, supporting patient flow, capacity management, and safe staffing while ensuring high standards of patient care are maintained at all times.

The Surgical Escalation Lead will work closely with ward managers, matrons, operational teams, site teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues to coordinate patient pathways, manage escalation pressures, and support effective utilisation of beds and resources across the surgical directorate.

  • Coordinate patient flow and bed management to support timely admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Provide clinical leadership during periods of increased operational pressure.
  • Work collaboratively with Site Management, Discharge Teams, Bed Managers, and Clinical Leads.
  • Support the delivery of Trust performance targets, including emergency flow and elective recovery.
  • Act as a role model, mentor, and support for nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and operational developments across Surgery.
