The Survey Technical Lead
The Survey Technical Lead is responsible for leading a team of Survey Technicians responsible for the preparation, installation, integration, testing, and handover of survey systems, sensors, and associated payload interfaces across Ocean Infinity vessels, remote operations environments, and project mobilisation activities. The role provides hands-on technical leadership to ensure survey systems are correctly configured, safely installed, verified against approved requirements, and released ready for reliable survey acquisition.
Accountabilities
- Accountable for technical readiness of survey systems, sensors, interfaces, cabling, software, spares, and installation arrangements before mobilisation or project start-up.
- Lead survey mobilisation execution, including equipment preparation, bench testing, calibration checks, installation sequencing, configuration control, and readiness verification.
- Provide technical direction to survey technicians, offshore engineers, installation teams, and mobilisation support personnel during preparation, installation, testing, fault-finding, and handover.
- Maintain control of technical records, including equipment registers, interface drawings, calibration certificates, test evidence, configuration records, and mobilisation close-out packs.
- Identify technical risks, installation constraints, equipment deficiencies, and configuration gaps early, escalating issues with recommendations and recovery actions.
- Drive standardisation and technical excellence in survey mobilisation and installation practices across projects, vessels, and operational locations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Preparation
- Develop and control the technical mobilisation plan, ensuring equipment, interfaces, documentation, personnel, and test requirements are aligned before installation or vessel deployment.
- Review project requirements, survey scopes, technical designs, and mobilisation assumptions to define equipment, interfaces, test regimes, and installation constraints.
- Confirm readiness of survey sensors, acquisition workstations, network interfaces, timing systems, positioning equipment, subsea interfaces, spares, tools, and test equipment.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Vessel Operations, Survey Operations, Technical Authorities, and logistics teams to align access, lifting, installation, power, network, and testing requirements.
- Identify mobilisation risks, missing equipment, late technical inputs, dependency conflicts, and resource constraints, and escalate with practical mitigation options.

Survey Installation, Integration, and Testing
- Lead survey system installation and integration, ensuring equipment is safely installed, correctly interfaced, tested end-to-end, and verified against approved configurations.
- Oversee installation of survey sensors, mounting arrangements, cabling, junction boxes, acquisition equipment, timing systems, network connections, and control interfaces.
- Verify physical installation against approved layouts, interface requirements, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and safe access provisions.
- Conduct functional checks, integration testing, calibration verification, data flow testing, communications checks, and acceptance testing prior to operational handover.
- Perform first-line technical troubleshooting of survey sensors, electronic interfaces, hydraulic or mechanical support arrangements, software configuration, and data acquisition workflows.
- Ensure deviations, temporary arrangements, technical limitations, and open punch-list items are documented, risk-assessed, and controlled before operational release.
Technical Documentation, Configuration Control, and Handover
- Own the technical records required to demonstrate that survey systems have been prepared, installed, tested, and released for operations in a controlled and traceable manner.
- Maintain equipment registers, calibration records, software and firmware versions, configuration baselines, interface records, test evidence, and mobilisation readiness documentation.
- Produce technical handover packs for offshore, ROC, project, and support teams, clearly identifying open items, limitations, and operating requirements.
- Control technical changes through approved Management of Change processes and ensure configuration updates are reflected in operational instructions.
Technical Compliance and Interface
- Act as the technical interface between Survey Operations, Project Management, Vessel Operations, Technical Authorities, logistics, procurement, and offshore execution teams during mobilisation and installation activities.
- Support technical bid and project reviews by assessing mobilisation feasibility, installation complexity, equipment availability, interface risks, and survey system suitability.
- Provide clear guidance to stakeholders on survey installation requirements, readiness status, risks, constraints, and recovery actions.
- Engage suppliers, vendors, and internal support teams to resolve technical issues, obtain required documentation, and confirm equipment performance or compatibility.

Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and coordinate survey technicians, offshore engineers, and mobilisation support personnel to deliver safe, repeatable, and high-quality survey installations.
- Allocate technical tasks, supervise work quality, and ensure survey personnel understand installation requirements, risks, standards, and acceptance criteria.
- Mentor team members in survey equipment preparation, fault finding, preventive maintenance, calibration control, documentation discipline, and safe technical execution.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, competency development, and performance feedback for survey technical personnel where required.
Experience
- Extensive practical experience with offshore survey equipment, sensor preparation, installation support, system integration, calibration, and readiness assurance.
- Strong working knowledge of survey sensors, acquisition systems, positioning systems, timing, networking, data flows, interface management, and operational troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to lead mobilisation teams, offshore engineers, survey technicians, and cross-functional stakeholders in time-critical technical environments.
- Experience maintaining equipment inventories, spare-part requirements, calibration records, installation checklists, and handover evidence.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical risks, resolve mobilisation constraints, and recommend practical installation solutions.

- Strong technical judgment, with the confidence to challenge readiness assumptions, stop unsafe or unsuitable work, and escalate risks clearly. Disciplined approach to configuration control, technical documentation, test evidence, procedural compliance, and safe systems of work.
- Hands-on problem-solving capability across electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, network, and software-related survey system issues.
- Effective communication with technical, operational, commercial, supplier, and leadership stakeholders, translating complex survey installation issues into clear actions and decisions.
- Commitment to Ocean Infinity policies, Stop Work authority, incident reporting, continuous improvement, and the integrated management system.
Salary
- Salary for this position: Up to 85,000 GBP per annum
- The salary varies for this position as we are recruiting in job grades. The salary process is based on skills, abilities, and experience required.
