Surveyor ApprenticeMEH Alliance
The Survey Apprentice supports the delivery of surveying services while undertaking structured training and development to build technical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience. Working under the supervision of experienced survey professionals, the apprentice assists with field data collection, survey processing, equipment maintenance, and project delivery while progressing towards recognised qualifications and competency standards.
Accountabilities:
Survey Operations Support
- Assist survey teams with the preparation and execution of site-based survey activities.
- Support the collection of topographical, engineering, utility, and measured building survey data.
- Help establish survey control points and assist with setting out activities under supervision.
- Assist with data processing, checking, and preparation of survey deliverables.
Equipment and Technology
- Operate survey equipment safely and correctly under supervision.
- Assist with the maintenance, calibration, and safe storage of survey equipment.
- Learn the application of GNSS, total stations, laser scanning, UAVs, and survey software.
- Report any equipment faults or issues promptly.

- Comply with all company health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
- Participate in site briefings, toolbox talks, and risk assessment processes.
- Maintain a safe working environment for themselves and others.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and consistently.
Learning and Development
Complete all apprenticeship training requirements and coursework within agreed timescales.
Develop technical knowledge of surveying principles, procedures, and industry standards.
Seek feedback and apply learning to improve performance and competency.
Maintain records of training, learning objectives, and practical experience.
Teamwork and Communication
- Work collaboratively with surveyors, engineers, project teams, and clients.
- Demonstrate a professional attitude and willingness to learn.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Support the delivery of projects by carrying out assigned tasks to the required standard.
Quality Assurance
- Assist in ensuring survey data is collected accurately and efficiently.
- Follow company procedures for data management and document control.
- Support quality checks on survey information and project outputs.
- Maintain accurate records of survey activities and site observations.
Key Deliverables:
- Successful completion of apprenticeship training and qualifications.
- Accurate collection and recording of survey data under supervision.
- Safe and compliant participation in field and office-based survey activities.
- Effective support to survey teams on project delivery.
- Proper use, care, and maintenance of survey equipment.
- Progression towards competency in surveying techniques, software, and industry standards.
- Completion of assigned tasks within agreed timescales and quality requirements.
- Maintenance of training records, learning logs, and competency assessments.
- Demonstration of continuous improvement in technical knowledge and practical skills.

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience
Grade 5 Maths GCSE
