Job Description
Our client are looking to onboard 2 x Linux Engineers with strong experience in SUSE / SLES Linux. You will be working in a complex SUSE Linux and Open Enterprise Server environment, engaging with users, technical colleagues and senior management to clarify data ownership, streamline access, and reduce the legacy estate. The position initially concentrates on discovery, analysis and planning, followed by phased migration delivery and ongoing contribution to wider file services activities. This will require 2 days per week in the London office, 6 month initial contract with 18 months or work available as a minimum and will be INSIDE IR35.
Essential Skills
- Strong Linux engineering and Linux administration experience, including confident use of the command line, file systems, permissions, storage, logs, automation and scripting.
- Demonstrable ability to investigate complex technical environments and learn platform-specific behaviours, particularly in SUSE Linux and related file services.
- Proven capability to collect, analyse and organise technical information using shell scripting or similar tools to support repeatable investigation and reporting.
- Clear and confident communication skills, enabling effective interaction with users, technical teams and senior management.
- Structured and methodical approach to investigation and problem-solving, with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating constructively with the wider team and aligning with agreed priorities.
- Stakeholder engagement skills, including building relationships with data owners and business contacts to clarify requirements and secure agreement on migration plans.
- Technical analysis skills for understanding permissions, data usage, dependencies and risks within a large-scale file services environment.
- SUSE certification or equivalent formal recognition of SUSE Linux expertise.

- Exposure to Open Enterprise Server (OES) environments and directory-based file permissions, including trustee rights, groups and inheritance.
- Familiarity with NSS file systems and Inherited Rights Filters (IRFs), or comparable complex permission structures.
- Experience working with Active Directory file permissions and integrating file services with directory-based access control.
- Background in large-scale data migration projects, including discovery, planning, stakeholder communication, validation and cutover activities.
- Previous involvement in documenting operational processes and migration decisions to support ongoing support and governance.
- Experience in operational support and troubleshooting within file services or storage platforms.
