National Grid is recruiting an Sustainability Adviser - This is for a 9 Months Fixed Term Contract - Role will be based from our Warwick office - Hybrid working with flexible options available.

Job Purpose
As a Carbon Sustainability Advisor, you will play a key role in helping Electricity Transmission achieve its carbon reduction ambitions and broader sustainability objectives. Supporting the Carbon Technical Lead, you will be responsible for maintaining carbon reporting systems, analysing data and providing insights that help drive informed decision-making across the business.
You will champion sustainable practices across construction and operational activities, helping to embed carbon management into everyday decision-making. Through collaboration with internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders, you will contribute to the delivery of our Environmental Action Plan and support continuous improvement in carbon performance.
As part of a high-performing team, you will help build a culture of sustainability, provide trusted advice and ensure carbon data is accurate, meaningful and accessible to a wide range of audiences.
What you'll do
- Deliver carbon reporting and performance monitoring across various stages of project delivery.
- Maintain and continuously improve carbon footprinting tools and reporting systems.
- Manage and enhance the Carbon Asset Database, including developing new asset carbon factors where required.
- Analyse carbon performance data, identifying key trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop meaningful KPIs, dashboards and monthly performance reports to support business decision-making.
- Support the delivery of Science Based Targets (SBTs) through effective carbon management across Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
- Help develop and implement new carbon and sustainability processes, procedures and best practices.
- Promote low carbon and sustainable construction practices across projects and programmes.
- Support managers and teams in delivering the Environmental Action Plan and embedding sustainability into business activities.
- Influence contractors and supply chain partners to meet sustainability expectations and adopt best practice approaches.
- Benchmark performance against industry peers and identify opportunities to improve environmental performance.
- Support the assessment of sustainability submissions during procurement and tender activities.
- Help deliver sustainability awareness initiatives, carbon literacy programmes and behavioural change campaigns.
- Promote a positive Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) culture through proactive and visible leadership.

About you
We're looking for someone with a genuine passion for sustainability and carbon reduction, combined with strong analytical skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
You'll bring:
- A degree, diploma, ONC or equivalent technical/professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
- At least three years' experience in carbon management, greenhouse gas accounting, sustainability or a related field.
- Good knowledge of carbon accounting methodologies and sustainability principles.
- An understanding of construction activities, infrastructure projects and associated carbon impacts.
- Strong analytical skills with confidence working with data and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and engaging way.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
- A full UK driving licence.
It would be beneficial if you also have:
- Membership of IEMA or another relevant professional body.
- Knowledge of standards and frameworks such as PAS 2080, the GHG Protocol and BREEAM Infrastructure.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Experience supporting sustainability initiatives within major infrastructure, engineering or construction environments.

What you'll get
A competitive salary between £40,000 - £50,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
