Criterion Capital is seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to lead the development and delivery of sustainability strategy across our construction and real estate projects. The successful candidate will work closely with the design team to embed sustainable practices from project inception through delivery, with the opportunity to build and lead a dedicated sustainability team as the function grows.

The Role

This role is responsible for shaping and implementing Criterion Capital's sustainability strategy at both a company-wide and project level, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance. You will act as Criterion Capital's central point of contact for all sustainability matters, collaborating closely with the design team and supporting both office and site-based project teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing company-wide sustainability strategy, policies, and targets
  • Leading sustainability delivery on individual projects, including BREEAM assessments and certification processes
  • Collaborating with the design team to embed sustainable design principles from concept through to completion
  • Monitoring and reporting on project and company-wide sustainability performance against agreed targets
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation, planning conditions, and industry standards
  • Producing and circulating regular reports on sustainability progress and performance
  • Supporting procurement and construction teams to identify and implement sustainable materials, methods, and technologies
  • Visiting site to support project teams with the practical application of sustainability requirements
  • Keeping up to date with emerging sustainability standards, legislation, and best practice within construction and real estate
  • Laying the groundwork to build and lead a sustainability team as the function expands

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience in a Sustainability Manager or similar role within the construction or real estate industry
  • Strong working knowledge of BREEAM assessment processes; BREEAM AP accreditation is a strong advantage
  • Excellent organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Clear and professional communication skills when liaising with Clients, Consultants, the design team, and the wider supply chain
  • Confidence in leading meetings to review and manage sustainability requirements and performance
  • The ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • A proactive, flexible approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • The capability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, with the ambition to grow and lead a team in future
